Matt was like all young Canadians growing up in rural Ontario. The majority of his memorable experiences as a youngster where formed along the lakes, rivers and countryside with his childhood companions and younger brother. Matt’s fondness for two wheels formed at an early age, puttering around the pits of Sudbury on a mini-bike manufactured in the garage of his late grandfather. Turn-after-turn, he waited in a single line with his cousins. More laps were made around the baseball field with a cloud of oil rich smoke than dirt kicked up by sneakers.

It was not until much later in his life that the opportunity arose to have his own set of motor-assisted two wheels. After summers of cutting lawns and raking leaves, the offer from a friendly neighbour made Matt’s dream come true! He bought the biggest and boldest 1985 Suzuki FA-50, which he enjoyed for many years. This machine, or lack thereof, saw amazing amount of dirt roads, trails, ditches and riverbanks. It was pulled, rather than propelled, up many winding roads, toward the end of its life. (Anyone with piston-rings for this machine, contact me!)

Matt’s experience on a motorcycle of sport variety was just prior to his move to Toronto and so, he arrived in the big city with his Kawasaki Ninja 500R. He had spent the summer of 2004, before his big move, getting a handle on using a clutch and gears. Between the decline of many friendships, his big move and his badass bike, it was not long until Mom and Dad knew they had a motorcyclist in the family. The common evolution from the Ninja is the GSXR 600R and so the young Matt made it his next machine.

It was not until a fortunate meeting at a local red-light that Matt would be tossed into the ever-growing hobby of motorcycle track lapping. Andy’s influence on a fellow street rider led Matt to appreciate the speed of the sport, a long way from his first experiences on two wheels. Matt has been riding amateur track days since 2006. Along with cast members Andy, Steve and Derek, he regularly attends Pro6, Riders Choice, Racer5 and Guys with Bikes track days and ride on such tracks as Mosport International Raceway, Shannonville Motorsports Park, Calabogie Motorsport Park and Toronto Motorsports Park in Canada. As fellow rider to his track blasting friends, Matt is more than thrilled to be a part of HOT LAP! With a new addition of a Track Prepped ZX6 to his fleet, he is more than thrilled for the upcoming season!!
